How to Arrange Pillows on a King Bed

Having the correct size pillow arrangement on a king size bed will help create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your bedroom. Below we break down 3 of our favorite pillow arrangement options for a king size bed.

Option 1 -

The most traditional option for a king-size bed is to use 3 euro size pillows as your base. These will go in front of your king-size bed pillows. You’ll want the euro pillows to contrast with your headboard. Next, add two 22x22 accent pillows in front of the euro pillows, you will also want these to have a contrasting color or pattern. Finally, finish off the arrangement with a simple 20 x20 accent pillow.

Option 2 -

We love this option for a sophisticated but modern look. You will start with 3 euro shams in the back. In front of the euros you can place 20x30 standard pillow shams. You can chose to have these be an accent color and pattern, or match your bedding. If you do choose to have your standard shams match your bedding, you’ll want to make sure the 3 euro shams have color or pattern to draw the eye. Finish off this arrangement with either a 14 x 36 or a 14 x 48 lumbar pillow.

Option 3 -

Here is a more minimalist approach, and the one I personally use in my own home. I’ve found it’s just the right amount of pillows to keep things interesting visually, while still requiring minimal effort on my part to make the bed. Your 3 euro shams - which can be sized down to 24x24 pillow covers (which is what I personally have) - will be placed in the back. You will want these to contrast with your headboard. Then layer a single extra long lumbar in a 14x48 size. Typically your lumbar contains the most pattern and color of your pillows and will draw and focus the eye.
