How to Arrange Pillows on a Twin Bed

Having the correct size pillow arrangement on a twin size bed will help create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your bedroom. Below we break down 3 of our favorite pillow arrangement options for a twin size bed.

Option 1 -

Kids’ bedrooms are some of our favorite spaces to design for our clients, why? Because they are full of color and personality. Layering your throw pillows is a great way to create visual interest, build-in color, and patterns. Our go-to model for selecting pillows for a twin bed is to start with a standard 20x30 pillow sham and layer in front with a 22x22. You can size up to a 24x24 particularly if you have a taller headboard - we’ll show you how to incorporate a euro sham in a later example. Then you’ll want to finish it off with a small 14x20 lumbar. We typically will have the accent pillow or the lumbar pillow be our statement piece, which has a lot of pattern & color that will be used throughout the space.

Option 2 -

Using a euro pillow 26x26 as your base gives you the option to layer in a more contemporary fashion. Here you’ll want to make sure that your euro sham pillow stands out enough from your headboard. We recommend using this arrangement with taller headboards as it will help balance out the scale. In front of your euro sham, place a standard 20x30 pillow, and then finish it off with an accent pillow. You can select either a square accent pillow in an 18x18 size or a lumbar in a 14x20 or 12x20 size. We typically prefer a lumbar pillow to repeat the standard pillow shape.

Option 3 -

This option is very similar to the first, the main difference being the euro sham vs a large accent pillow. We love to use this option with tall upholstered or wooden headboards because the scale of the euro sham pillow can really help focus your eye. Here we have a headboard with a lot of pattern, so we’ve chosen a solid euro pillow and then a contrasting lumbar pillow 12x20 or 14x20. In this example, you could very easily swap the lumbar pillow for a square accent pillow 22x22 or 20x20.
