Master Bathroom Renovation
Take a look behind the scenes at my plans for my master bathroom renovation! While I wont kick off this project until early 2022 (hello budget buster!) I’m taking this time to use the exact same process I use for all of my Homzie Design Project clients and applying it to my own home projects. I used my unique needs, style, and budget to create a design plan for my master bathroom that eliminates some of my biggest headaches (aka ugly tile and black countertops) and makes my master bathroom cohesive with my personal style. Take a look at how I plan to transform my builder-grade bathroom into a luxurious retreat!
Master Bathroom Renovation: Mood Board
I shared this design board on our Instagram stories a few weeks ago and had so many people asking about resources I decided to put everything in one place to make it simple for you to see where I’m sourcing these items from. Some products may contain affiliate links in which I receive a small commission from the company, at no additional cost to you.
Bath Tub Area
Confession, I’m a bath person! Yup almost every other day this is how I choose to unwind - with a nice bubble bath, cold drink, and Netflix. I know, I know, I’m playing Russian roulette having my iPad on top of my bath caddy but what can I say… I live dangerously. It goes without saying then, that I want to love my bathtub space. My biggest pet peeve in this area is the tile it doesn’t add anything and feels so masculine and gives off “ great smokey mountain cabin” vibes. We’ll remove the tile, change the blinds to woven bamboo shades to warm it up, and add some art above the bath faucet. I’ll use a stool and baskets to store all of my bath salts and doo-dads,
Shower Remodel
This shower is the bane of my existence! I bought my home in 2014 from a woman who built it in 2010 and got married while building her home. One of the reasons I was so drawn to this house was because of the on-trend finishes in the home (white kitchen cabinets, marble countertops, etc). She had great taste! This is why I believe she let her fiance pick out the finishes in the bathroom… they go with nothing else in the house and are downright terrible. For starters, the square accent tile is very dark and porous meaning is disguises mold and allows it to hold on and flourish - YUCK! I Tilex this shower constantly and never feel like it’s clean. It’s also very closed in. I’m almost positive the wall dividing the tub and shower has no structural purpose and is purely aesthetic so I want to pony that whole wall down massively opening up the room and exposing the new white marble subway tile (thinking resale here). Additionally, we’ll be taking the tile all the way to the ceiling and enclosing the whole shower in glass. For a splash of personality, I found this stunning tile I want to use on the floor of the shower as an accent. We’ll be finishing out the shower with a brass showerhead. Although I’ll end up selecting a brass shower head with a hose so I can easily wash my dog Nora.
Vanity Renovation
I’m not sure what I dislike more, the shower tile or these black countertops. Any woman who wears foundation and powder knows that black shows everything! This is again one of those clean freak things where I never feel like my vanity is clean always showing makeup residue. My plan is to swap out the black countertop for white quartz with warm gray veining. We’ll change out all of the hardware, accessories, mirrors, and vanity lighting to reflect the warmer brass tones I’m wanting to bring in. I recently painted the walls SW Alabaster and I love the warm glow it gives the space. To have the lower cabinetry “pop” more and to coincide with my slightly more coastal style I’m painting the cabinets BM Boothbay Gray this lovely blue/gray/green color that is both spa-like and creates a color pop in the space.
The Water Closet
Is that what they call it? Anyways, the toilet area is getting a mini-makeover simply by adding function to this small space. I’ll replace the rickety storage with floating wood shelves for warmth and swap out the dated builder-grade boob light (yes I said it) for a simple drum shade. With my limited storage under the vanity cabinets I’m in need of additional space for towels and other items. Having 2-3 floating shelves will give me much needed extra storage and creates an opportunity for some luxurious bathroom styling.
