Follow this Pillow Combination Formula
First, when choosing what pillows to put on your bed follow this simple formula for throw pillow combinations: solid, texture, pattern. Another alternative for texture would be a small pattern. So you could also say the formula is solid, small pattern, big pattern. It’s really that easy! Keep this simple formula in mind when selecting your different layers of pillows, when in doubt keep it simple for a timelessly chic deisgn.
Use Bolster Pillows for a Minimalist Look
I make my bed every morning. It’s a habit I’ve built for years. The way I’ve kept it going is by making my life easier by needing fewer pillows to “make my bed” and count the task as done! If you’re a fan of less is more, or if you think that having fewer pillows on your bed will make your spouse more likely to make the bed —- this design is for you! If you don’t want to use euro shams for this design you can substitute three 20x20 pillows instead.
Anchor with Smaller Patterned Prints + Texture
This pillow combination is very similar to the first, only with a throw pillow instead of a lumbar pillow. Similarly, you could size up the 20x20 accents to 22x22 and layer in front of them a 20x20 and 18x18 - we like this explosion of pillows arrangement for boho style bedrooms where more is more!
Build-in Pillow Layers
We like taking this basic combination to the next level by layering in front of the two euro shams, two standard pillow cases - particularly those with some texture. Then we bring in the color and pattern with the 20x20 accent pillows and finish it off with a 12x24 lumbar. Of course, you could just as easily put the standard pillows behind the euros, even using your standard pillow cases for a more simplified look.
