2023 Home Decor Trends

As we enter into 2023, there are a multitude of decorating trends to be aware of. Homeowners are shifting away from traditional minimalism and embracing a more eclectic style that blends together modern and classic elements. We are seeing an increased popularity in bold colors, mix-and-match patterns, and attention to texture. Whether you’re looking for an update to your existing design or creating an entirely new look, you can find a plethora of ideas that will inspire you and create a space you love. Here is our list of what we expect to be "hot" in 2023.

2023: Green is still in

  1. Green is still in

The organic movement of 2020-2022 continues with home features playing homage to the real and natural. Bringing green into your home is a guaranteed way to promote harmony and peace. This year, we're seeing green tones deepen from the calming sage of 2022 to a moodier and richer olive tone in 2023.

2023: Checkered Floor Tile

2. Checkered floor tile

A play on European flooring styles, diamond or checkered flooring tiles are making a big comeback. Chris Loves Julia, the home blogging duo, paid homage to this timeless style a few years back in their dining room redesign complete with a stunning large checkered tile floor. Now they are at it again in their laundry room redesign featuring the same style tile. We think this style is both bold and timeless, a safe bet for laundry rooms, bathrooms, or dining rooms alike. For a more neutral style, try playing with a more gray marble veining tile vs black.

2023 Design Trends: Mixing Eras

3. Mixing Eras

You'll continue to see a lot of mixing eras and genres. Two styles that seemingly don't go together working in harmony. One of the most common ones we're seeing is modern + traditional. You could have a curved boucle sofa in a room with wallpaper, picture frame accented walls, and a traditional chandelier. It's all about making these opposites attract and using the principles of design to get you there!

2023 Design Trend: Brown is the "it" color

4. Brown is the "it" color

Rich warm colors are THE trend of 2023. Brown especially is making a big comeback in cabinetry, furniture, and paint. You'll see more kitchens and bathrooms with more custom wood millwork. You'll also continue to see raw wood in beams and other header accents. These warm brown tones are paving the way for a more classic and traditional color palette which seems to be coming back into style.

2023 Decor Trends: Oversized Lighting

5. Oversized Lighting

If you want a statement, this could be it. By intentionally oversizing the light fixtures in your space, putting them in disproportion, you're making a bold design statement. We think this design trend works best when you have some major architectural elements to support it like large ceilings, other oversized features, or a general sense of minimalism allowing the light fixture to become like a piece of art.

2023 Design Trends: Curves

6. Curves on curves

In 2023, you'll continue to see the rise of organic shapes in furniture, staircases, and archways, you name it. This shape adjustment allows a softening to take place that we think will complement the more traditional and classic elements coming back into style allowing spaces to maintain a sense of comfort and casualness.

2023 Design Trends: Veiny Dramatic Marble

7. Veiny dramatic marble

I love a good kitchen moment. 2023 is bringing statement marble & quartz back. Not only are we seeing more patterns and color variations being chosen but a preference to forgo the backsplash and instead carry the stone up the wall as the backsplash with a finished ledge. This works really well in larger moody and midcentury spaces as it is quite the eye-catcher. Keeping everything else simple and allowing the stone to be the focal point is key.

8. Pretty Laundry Rooms & Mudrooms

Those hidden "utility" spaces are getting a facelift in 2023. So much great inspiration has emerged to bring laundry rooms and mudrooms out of hiding. We're not only seeing more intentionally designed spaces but decorated ones as well, those finishing touches like hardware and storage containers are helping transforms these "backstage" spaces.
