10 Things You Can do Right Now to Refresh Your Home

Have you ever walked into your living room and thought “I have had my couch in the same spot for 3 years. I could really use a change”? If the answer is yes, know that we have all been there! The good news is that we have 10 easy things you can do right now that will liven up your favorite spaces.

  1. Print off family photos or digital art

Gallery walls are a perfect accent to a large wall. The best part is that you can customize the pictures to your taste. It can be a collage of your favorite family moments, a showcase of your children’s art pieces, or just some fun designs you found online. Use small to medium-sized frames to feature your art. Create a grid pattern on your wall and evenly space out your pictures to create the gallery look!

2. Rearrange the furniture

Remember that couch we were talking about that has been in the same place for too long? Well, grab a partner and move it around! Get creative with the layout of your space. Sometimes all it takes is an adjustment of a few larger furniture pieces. See how your couch looks at a different angle or on the other side of the room! Sometimes a change of environment is exactly the kind of refresh we need.

3. Sell something you no longer need

It turns out, you don’t actually have to keep the hand-me-down bedside table your grandma gave you. It is perfectly okay to “bless and release” items of furniture that no longer serve your space. If a piece of furniture or decor seemingly won’t fit in with the rest of your space, it may be time to let it go. We grow out of things, and that is okay. Plus, you can make a little cash if you choose to sell your items! Try Mercardi for smaller decoration pieces and Facebook Market place for larger items.

4. Change the light bulbs

Lighting is such an important part of making your space feel like your home. Changing the light bulbs to a warmer or less intense option can help make a space feel lighter and brighter! Lighting can also have an impact on your energy and mood. This simple trick can improve your space in more ways than one!

5. Swap out throw pillows

After you find the perfect spot for your couch, find some fun new throw pillows! This is an easy way to add a touch of your personality to your home. Throw pillows are also a great way to add textures and patterns to your space. On top of all this, throw pillows are typically pretty easy to find and you can usually find them for a fair price! Another simple option is to change out the pillowcases.

6. Purge Stuff

Clutter happens! And that’s okay. But having a space that is crammed with too much stuff can lead to higher stress levels and anxiety. Work to put away items that you are not actively using and throw out old clutter. Make sure countertops are clear and clean, fold and put away blankets, and store small items in bins or drawers. Cleaning out your space will help it feel larger and more relaxing! Think clean and simple!

7. Add some greenery

Green is the color of life! Adding a pop of green to your rooms can help make them feel more lively and refreshing. Small plants are available at most home improvement stores and are usually fairly priced. Plants can be displayed in so many places in your home. On the desk, on bookshelves, on the table or tv stand, or hanging in rope plant hangers. There are house plants for every skill level and displaying some fresh herbs in your window is a simple but effective touch.

8. Refresh soft furnishings

Large items like couches and chairs are often long-term pieces of furniture. These pieces are everyday use items and they are also comfort items! It is important that they continue to serve as functional and comfortable items. Show them some love by cleaning the fabric and fluffing up your pillows and cushions. Rotate, flip, and fluff your cushions to keep them looking like new!

9. Restyle open shelves

Group your items in groups of 3. Play around with the sizes of objects and combine objects of different sizes and shapes. Use books to fill spaces as well as platforms for other objects. Place larger or unique pieces by themselves. Another great way to add depth to your bookshelves is to layer picture frames. Print out your favorite memories with your family or fun digital art and layer the picture frames on your shelves.

10. Deep clean

The peace of a clean house can never be understated. Schedule a Saturday when you have time and grab those cleaning supplies! Make time to sweep and vacuum the floors, dust tv stands, and bookshelves, put away small items and clutter, and wipe down all surfaces. When you are done, light a relaxing scented candle and enjoy the peace of your clean house!

Sometimes all it takes is a few hours and some creativity to bring new life into your space! These are simple steps anyone can do in an afternoon. Have fun with it and enjoy your newly spruced-up home!

PS if you haven’t heard of Go Clean Co, well now you have! They have great “recipes” for cleaning products and tell you exactly what to use on what surface/space that you can download. I never knew powdered tide could do so much! Also, I love their motto “bleach, pray, love” hilarious!
